OFFICINA* 29 // Memory of a Pine Tree that was not there

MEMORY OF A PINE TREE THAT WAS NOT THERE
Paris, XVème arrondissement

The writer Roger Caillois, in Petit guide du XVème arrondissement à l’usage des fantômes (1977), recalls the transformation of the neighbourhood, the continuous reconstruction, during the Sixties, carried out with a “feverish rush”: the old houses demolished and replaced by massive, large and homogeneous buildings.
That pine tree was not there, it came – after-all – once things (were) done.
